Indian e-Visa Guide
Foreign nationals can apply for an Indian e-Visa online through the official Indian Visa Online portal, choosing the correct sub-category - e-Tourist, e-Business, or e-Medical - based on the purpose of visit.
Required Documents
Step-by-Step Process
Choose the Correct e-Visa Category
On indianvisaonline.gov.in, select the correct sub-category (e-Tourist, e-Business, e-Medical, e-Medical Attendant, or e-Conference) matching your actual purpose of visit.
Fill the Online Application Form
Enter passport details, personal information, address in home country, and planned itinerary/port of arrival in India exactly as they appear on your passport.
Upload Photo and Passport Scan
Upload a white-background digital photo meeting the size/format specs, and a clear scan of your passport's bio-data page.
Pay Visa Fee Online
Pay the applicable visa fee using an international credit/debit card; the fee amount depends on nationality, visa category, and duration.
Receive ETA and Carry It to India
The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is emailed within 72 hours in most cases; print it and carry it along with your passport for immigration checks on arrival.
Pro Tips & Warnings
- Apply at least 4-7 days before travel (but not more than 120 days in advance) - the e-Visa is an Electronic Travel Authorization, not a visa sticker, and must match your passport exactly.
- e-Tourist visas allow a double or multiple entry depending on duration chosen (30 days, 1 year, or 5 years), but you can only enter through designated e-Visa airports/seaports.
- Double-check the visa category before paying - e-Business and e-Medical visas have different document and duration rules than e-Tourist, and fees are non-refundable even if rejected.
