GATE Exam Application
Register for GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) on the GOAPS portal hosted each year by the organising IIT/IISc, choosing your test paper and exam city before the registration deadline.
Required Documents
Step-by-Step Process
Register on GOAPS
Create a GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System) account on the current year's hosting IIT/IISc website with a valid email and mobile number.
Fill Application and Choose Paper
Enter personal, academic, and category details, and select one of the GATE test papers (e.g. CS, ME, EE) along with up to four preferred exam city choices.
Upload Documents and Pay Fee
Upload your photo, signature, and eligibility/category documents in the specified size, then pay the exam fee online via net banking, card, or UPI.
Check the Enrolment ID and Correction Window
After submission you get an Enrolment ID; use the limited correction window later to fix errors in category, exam city, or paper choice if allowed that year.
Download Admit Card
Download the admit card from GOAPS about 3-4 weeks before the exam; PwD candidates confirm scribe/compensatory time requests here, and note it does not carry your photo - carry a valid photo ID too.
Pro Tips & Warnings
- The exam uses an on-screen virtual scientific calculator only - no physical calculator is allowed inside the exam hall.
- GATE score validity is 3 years from the result date, and many PSU recruitments and M.Tech admissions accept it directly - no separate PSU exam needed for several companies.
- Choose your exam city carefully at the time of filling the form; city change requests after submission are rarely entertained.
