Search Trains and Check Availability
Enter source, destination, and journey date to view trains, seat availability across classes, and the current waitlist/RAC position if applicable.
Select Train, Class and Enter Passenger Details
Pick your preferred train and class (Sleeper, AC 3-tier, etc.), enter each passenger's name, age, gender, and berth preference.
Pay and Confirm Booking
Complete payment via UPI, card, or net banking; the e-ticket with PNR number is generated instantly and sent by SMS/email.
Track PNR Status or Book Tatkal if Needed
For waitlisted tickets, check PNR status regularly closer to the journey; if no reserved ticket is available, Tatkal booking opens at 10 AM (AC classes) / 11 AM (non-AC) one day before departure.
Pro Tips & Warnings
- Keep your IRCTC login, passenger details, and payment method saved/ready before Tatkal opens at 10/11 AM - the fastest few thousand bookings fill within minutes.
- A confirmed e-ticket is valid with just the SMS/PDF and one matching original photo ID for at least one passenger - printing is not compulsory.
- Autofill and 'master list' saved passengers in your IRCTC profile speed up Tatkal booking significantly since every second counts once the window opens.
