Recharge Metro Smart Card
Recharge your city's metro smart/travel card online through your specific metro operator's app or website - such as the Delhi Metro (DMRC) app, Namma Metro (BMRCL), or Chennai Metro app - since each city runs its own system.
Required Documents
Step-by-Step Process
Identify Your City's Metro App/Website
Download your city's official metro app - e.g. 'DMRC Momentum 2.0' for Delhi, 'Namma Metro' app for Bengaluru, or 'Chennai Metro Rail' app - or use their website recharge portal.
Link or Scan Your Smart Card
Enter your card number manually or use the app's NFC-scan feature (tap your card to your phone) to link it to your account for recharge.
Choose Recharge Amount and Pay
Select the recharge amount and pay via UPI, card, or wallet within the app; some cities also allow recharge via WhatsApp chatbot or at station kiosks/TVMs.
Update Card at Station Gate/AVM
For online recharges, tap your card at the entry gate or an Add Value Machine (AVM) at any station once to sync the new balance onto the physical card.
Pro Tips & Warnings
- Each metro system (Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi, etc.) is operated independently, so a card and its app from one city generally won't work in another.
- Online/app recharges usually need to be 'synced' by tapping at a station gate or AVM before the added balance actually becomes usable for travel.
- Most metro cards also give a small fare discount (often 5-10%) compared to paper QR tickets, making them worthwhile even for occasional riders.
