Organic Farming Certificate
Get your farm certified for organic farming through the low-cost Participatory Guarantee System (PGS-India), a peer-reviewed group certification alternative to expensive third-party NPOP certification.
Required Documents
Step-by-Step Process
Join or Form a PGS Farmer Group
Join an existing local group of 5-25 farmers registered under PGS-India, or form a new one through your Regional Council.
Register on the PGS-India Portal
Register your farm details, land area, and current cropping pattern on pgsindia-ncof.gov.in through your group.
Complete the 3-Year Conversion Period
Follow organic practices (no synthetic fertilizers/pesticides) for the conversion period, tracked through peer inspections and farm diaries.
Peer Appraisal and Local Group Verification
Fellow group members conduct peer appraisal visits to each other's farms, documenting practices in a shared, transparent process.
Receive PGS Organic Certificate
After the Regional Council reviews the group's records, your farm receives the PGS-Organic (Green) certificate, valid and renewable annually.
Pro Tips & Warnings
- PGS-India certification costs a fraction of third-party NPOP certification, making it accessible for small and marginal farmers.
- The full conversion period is 3 years - you can sell produce as 'organic (under conversion)' during this time, but not as fully certified organic.
- Maintain a farm diary consistently from day one - inconsistent record-keeping is the most common reason for delayed certification.
