Choose Your Application Route
Apply for an instant e-PAN free of cost via the Income Tax e-Filing portal (if you have Aadhaar with linked mobile), or apply via Form 49A on the Protean/UTIITSL portal for a physical card.
Complete e-KYC
Enter your Aadhaar number and verify with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile; your details are auto-fetched from UIDAI.
Verify and Submit
Review the auto-filled name, date of birth, and address, then submit the application.
Pay the Fee (if applicable)
Physical PAN applications require a fee (~₹107 for Indian addresses); instant e-PAN via the e-Filing portal is free.
Download or Receive PAN
Instant e-PAN is emailed as a PDF within 10 minutes to a few hours; physical PAN cards are dispatched by post within 15-20 days.
Pro Tips & Warnings
- The free instant e-PAN only works if your Aadhaar has a linked mobile number and you don't already have a PAN.
- Your name on PAN must exactly match your Aadhaar to avoid processing delays or rejection.
- Never apply for a second PAN if you already have one - holding multiple PANs is a punishable offence under the Income Tax Act.
