New Passport Application
Apply for a fresh Indian passport online through the Passport Seva portal, then visit a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in person for document verification and biometrics.
Required Documents
Step-by-Step Process
Register on Passport Seva
Create an account at passportindia.gov.in and log in to access the application form.
Fill the Application Form
Select 'Fresh Passport', choose normal or Tatkal scheme, and fill in your personal, address, and family details.
Pay Fee and Book an Appointment
Pay the applicable fee online and book an appointment slot at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office PSK.
Visit the PSK
Bring original documents for verification, biometric capture (photo and fingerprints), and a brief document check; Tatkal applicants may also have a short interview.
Police Verification
Standard applications typically undergo post-issue police verification; Tatkal and some ECNR categories may have pre-verified or waived checks.
Receive Your Passport
The passport is printed and dispatched via India Post/Speed Post to your registered address, typically in 30-45 days (7-10 days for Tatkal).
Pro Tips & Warnings
- Original documents are mandatory at the PSK appointment - photocopies alone will not be accepted for verification.
- Choose the Tatkal scheme only if you need the passport urgently, since it costs significantly more but skips the standard waiting period.
- Any mismatch between your name/DOB across Aadhaar, PAN, and other documents can delay your application - align them beforehand.
