Apply for e-Shram Card
Register on the e-Shram portal to get a Universal Account Number (UAN) based e-Shram card for unorganised sector workers, which includes automatic accidental insurance cover and access to social security schemes.
Required Documents
Step-by-Step Process
Check Eligibility
Confirm you are an unorganised sector worker aged 16-59, not an EPFO/ESIC member, and not an income taxpayer, since these disqualify e-Shram registration.
Self-Register with Aadhaar OTP
Visit eshram.gov.in, click 'Register on eShram', enter Aadhaar-linked mobile number, and verify with the OTP received.
Fill Personal, Occupation and Bank Details
Complete the form with personal details, education, occupation category (construction, domestic work, street vending, etc.), and bank account for benefit transfer.
Submit and Generate e-Shram Card
After submission, a 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) is generated instantly and the e-Shram card with your photo can be downloaded as a PDF right away.
Automatic Insurance Cover Activation
Every registered worker is automatically covered under PM Suraksha Bima Yojana-linked accidental insurance (Rs 2 lakh for death/permanent disability) at no extra cost.
Pro Tips & Warnings
- EPFO/ESIC members and income taxpayers are not eligible - e-Shram is meant only for unorganised sector workers without formal social security.
- Your UAN under e-Shram stays valid for life and is used to identify you for any future central welfare scheme benefit transfers.
- Keep your linked bank account active - accidental insurance claims and any direct benefit transfers are credited to this account only.
